One year ago on February 12th I slid on my drive and snapped my fibula in two, right by my ankle. Yes flopping around in the wind two. If it wasn't for my army boots, it probably would have popped through the skin. I am very grateful for that. But I feel that it might not have broken if not for the constriction of the boot on my ankle. I will never know for certain.

I had little work, so I got to garden, enjoy the yard and recuperate (still) from my broken ankle. Doesn't hurt all the time, but it does have it's moments.
I got a car near the end of the summer which was very nice. Then in the last few day of summer Bam! It's been years since I've had a car for more than a few months. There was that nice car we had a few years ago, that we could barely drive in winter and finally gave up the ghost. We were able to drive it to the rapid station to go see Weird Al downtown. That was fun. But for the most part it had so many issues it was barely in use. That's what you get with a $1200 car sometimes.
In theory I akaCINDERShttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06834726645482729838noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7737547126807626609.post-7624506188513263402014-07-24T15:19:00.000-04:002014-07-24T15:19:18.609-04:00Peanut Butter Almond Butter Frozen Fudge Cups
It started with a curiosity about a fascination with
coconut oil and how I could get it into my diet. I tried cooking in
it, but everything I fried with
it was just nasty. Coconut oil is a strange thing. It only stays
liquid at a higher temp, so salad dressing is hard to do because it's thick at room temperature.

I guess because progress is at such a snails pace now it's measured in months, not weeks. Also, I've been fairly busy with my business. A wonderful thing. I may post about that soon, giving you some idea of how to boost your business too. That's why I started this blog, but got way off subject. I guess I'm lucky that it was a clean break, without infection and that it healed correctly. It could have been much worse. Don't get me wrong, I knew there would be aches and pains for at least a year or two, and twinges for the rest of my life, but I never expected not to be able to walk on that foot akaCINDERShttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06834726645482729838noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7737547126807626609.post-7499709833701462162014-04-09T06:45:00.001-04:002014-04-09T06:45:53.267-04:00Eight Weeks and I'm Almost ThereGreat News! My ankle is almost totally healed. Still a tiny bit of filing in to do, but the biggest area is almost totally healed so that means WALKING.
Well, not exactly right this minute. I have to put on 20% of my body weight, and if that's OK increase to 30% until I reach full weight. Pain and Swelling will tell me when to stop. I have to walk with the walker or crutches (I'll be starting akaCINDERShttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06834726645482729838noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7737547126807626609.post-46199764047520446422014-04-03T06:36:00.000-04:002014-04-03T06:36:41.505-04:00Seven Weeks - Still HealingSeven weeks. I can't begin to tell you how sick I am of this. I was hoping to post that I can walk, but a death in the family of my ride to the doctor has delayed my appointments. Maybe that's good, because I've figured out how to handle the swelling I'm still having in my foot.
Things are getting much better. I realized that things are different in my new house, now I'm the one being hauled away, well, just once since I've been here. Actually I heard that the police came and took away one of them right before I got hauled off to the hospital. Hard to believe. I still have about 4 more weeks in a cast and then a removable boot support for who knows how long? but at least I should be able to walk by then (I hope).
It's been quite an adventure. This old dog has learned some serious new tricks. First, I had to rearrange my house and my life to accomodate. OK so maybe old lady is not exactly accurate, but fall I did.
For those of you who have read Thurber, you might be familiar with his story, The Night the Bed Fell. It is my favorite short story and the one that made me fall in love with Thurber's wry humor. My story goes something like this.
I had been having a rough few weeks. Well, I guess the weekends have been fairly good. Not today really.
There's something about Mercury retrograde that brings all kinds of problems with it. February has been absolutely the worst month I've had in a few years. First an abscessed tooth and following extraction. Then who knows, maybe all the changes to my body from chemicals, made me not as cautious. I didn't really like either choice, although my mannequin is light, the shed is about 30 feet from the house and the chances of my making it there in the snow without tripping and landing on her and the new Aprons is pretty slim.

In the spirit of the Holiday Season, I thought I might share the wonderful gifts that poverty has brought me.
I know most of you work hard to get the things you think you need, like a nice house and a big screen TV, but for the past few years I have had very little and yet I have discovered through having very little, what beauty and joy there is in the world.

There it is. The new time suck. I thought the old laptop with it's constant crashing was bad. I thought life was bad enough when it finally crashed and I only got half the files I needed off of it. (missing 2 years of tax forms I didn't print BECAUSE THEY WERE ON THE COMPUTER)

I have to admit. I've been large scale cooking and freezing meals all my adult life. There are days I just don't feel like cooking. Now that I'm living alone, I still like to buy a big pack of meat or veggies on sale and make a huge crockpot of whatever.
