The drink of choice in that part of the world, on a hot summer day was a cool refreshing Panaché (pan-uh-shay). I have tried to reproduce it here, with really poor results until just recently. In France, they use French style lemonade, like Lorina. If you can't find it, you can make a lovely one with a real lemonade like Minute Maid. Do not try it with lemonade mix or lemon lime soda. I've tried it and it is not the same.
Ingredients:
Chilled French Style Lemonade or Real Lemonade
Chilled Lager Style Beer
Fill glass with Equal Portions of each, no ice. Enjoy!
It is a little odd at first, but after a few, you will be wanting it every time it gets hot out. So refreshing! Cheers or should I say à votre santé

That's called a "clara" in Spain, and it's also one of the drinks of choice in the outdoors cafes and bars as soon as it starts getting sunny!
I think I'll give it a try this summer! Unusual combination.
After a few of anything it starts to taste good! lol! ;) Viva la booze!
Sounds wonderful! I'll be over for a glass!
Interesting. I live in Michigan and in various stores like Meijer (well, it's the only regional one I can think of) they have a French style lemonade by a company called Rieme. It comes in glass bottles with a fancy corkscrew top,
you can see it here:

You might try that stuff if you can find it - it's usually in the water aisle next to the Perrier.
I think I'll skip my 2nd cup of coffee and mix myself a panache!
Sarah, that is exactly the right lemonade. It will make it a little more sparkling, which is nice.
Rachael, I had one after working in the yard yesterday. Made me forget how hot and tired I was.
Yum! I can't wait to try it out.
Ah how I wish summer would get here so we could cool off with this super refreshment!
